The public spaces at River Parke Condominiums in Winnipeg was dated, worn out and in desperate need of a renovation to take it into a more modern era. Our clientele consisted of 69 affluent, sophisticated, design savy group each with very personal design style preferences varying from very modern to extremely traditional – giving us a very challenging design task to say the least. To achieve this, we finalized on a modern-style with hints of tradition. The overall design strategy involves a colour scheme in varying shades of a warm, neutral platinum-gray, rich textures and splashes of deep colour. The texture was achieved using the custom Shaw carpet, custom-designed etched glass walls, textured wallcovering and staining the main floor woodwork a medium gray colour. A traditional nod was achieved using classic-inspired custom furniture, a soft veining in the marble-inspired large-scale porcelain floor tile and the partial reuse of the traditional oak mouldings in the public corridors. Splashes of colour appear in the furniture upholstery, deep eggplant accent wall paint around the tenant doors and a 21’x7’-3” commissioned art piece from a well-know local artist for the lobby. The sheer scale of the painting, glass walls which define the seating area, elegant chandelier and inset area carpet set the tone for the lobby space, creating the feeling of a sophisticated, fresh residential living room. Post renovation, the overall feeling of the space is warm yet, modern, classic yet dramatic and more importantly we have a very pleased client.
