The First Nations Community of Lake St. Martin, Manitoba will finally be able to move home 6 years after being flooded and displaced to save the city of Winnipeg from flooding. We were thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Matix Lumber in Winnipeg to design the new homes for this community and excited to see the first completed per-built home roll out yesterday.
Matix Lumber approached us to become involved because they wanted to get away from the standard dated floor plans to offer the residents a fresh new design. Of course, we were up for the challenge to design several options for 3-Bedroom, 4-Bedroom and 5-Bedroom homes as well as Accessible homes. Fairly stringent guidelines and standards needed to be followed, however, we managed to find ways to add interest and spice up the plans. Decreased hall space and angles were incorporated into the plans and trims and accent colors brightened up the exterior.
